Be Transformed

A few weeks ago, a dozen churches from across the Metro Denver Association gathered at First Plymouth UCC in Englewood for the MDA’s annual joint worship service. What a delight it was for so many to come together and to be reminded that we are connected to each other, that we share God’s work, and that we share the inspiration of the Spirit. Through our associations and through the conference, through our neighborhoods and friendships, we are more connected than we think.

There was much to enjoy, from Rev. Dr. Jenny Whitcher’s childrens’ message about how we share our best with one another, to the music of the collective choir, to a moment of appreciation for Rev. Chris Gilmore as he makes his transition from Sixth Avenue UCC to Plymouth Congregational in Fort Collins. And, the service was blessed by an inspiring sermon from Rev. Darrell L. Goodwin, who is the Executive Conference Minister of the Southern New England Conference of the United Church of Christ. His sermon called us all to ask: What would happen if we left the church different from how we came? What if the church was truly transformative? And, what if we can realize that our neighbors are looking for community, not perfection?
