Leading Together: A Training for Congregational Moderators is a two-session introductory course explores the role of moderators and congregational leadership, why congregational leadership is different from other leadership contexts, and how to navigate the relational and interpersonal dynamics that come with the work. Through real-life scenarios, peer learning, and frameworks, participants will gain greater clarity about their role and leave with tools they can begin using immediately. This training will be facilitated by Rev. Dr. Vince Tango and Rev. Erin Gilmore. The tiered registration options range from $45 to $65. The deadline to register is August 10th.
After this workshop, participants will:
- Better understand the role and responsibilities of congregational leaders.
- Recognize the unique opportunities and challenges of leadership in congregational settings.
- Learn frameworks for approaching common leadership situations and decisions.
- Gain a shared language for discussing governance, relationships, and leadership dynamics.
Session 1: Understanding the Work: The Role of the UCC Moderator (Aug. 17th, 6-7:30 PM)
Explore what the moderator role involves, what makes congregational leadership unique, and a practical framework for understanding the different leadership roles and responsibilities moderators hold.
Session 2: When Things Get Complicated: Tools for Difficult Moments (Aug. 25th, 6-7:30 PM)
Learn frameworks for understanding what is happening when situations become challenging, navigating relational complexity, and discerning when and how to respond.
Both sessions will take place via Zoom. Your training facilitators will email you the necessary Zoom links sometime in the week leading up to the training. Please keep an eye on your email inbox for a message from Rev. Dr. Vince Tango.
Finally, please note that this training is open to anyone, but the content is primarily oriented toward the role of the church moderator. So, moderators will be the ones most likely to benefit from this training. Additional trainings about other leadership topics like communications, conflict management, and running effective meetings will be coming soon!
