Introducing the FAS Team

The CWCOM Profile Series

Over the next several weeks, the Conference Wide Committee on Ministry (CWCOM) will share different aspects of our work in an effort to clarify different roles and responsibilities and point towards resources for additional information.  If there are particular topics you would like included in this series, please email Ronda Connaway, Accountability Subcommittee co-chair at acs@rmcucc.org.

The Formation and Authorization Subcommittee (FAS) team connects and discerns with individuals who feel called to Authorized Ministry (also called Members in Discernment) and with congregations that seek to join denominationally with the United Church of Christ. In all situations, the ministry of FAS is grounded in a spirit of hospitality and mutual discernment.

The process and requirements for Members in Discernment (MIDs) includes a combination of fixed requirements along with requirements that have room for creativity. The same is true for congregations. The National UCC is in the process of creating a Manual on Church that will outline specific process information for congregations seeking to join with the United Church of Christ. In the interim, FAS has had the benefit of shared resources from other Conference-Wide Committees on Ministry to develop process guidelines for congregations.

Information related to the MID process in the Manual on Ministry (MOM) is extensive and can be found on MOM pages 19-34.
