Last Fall, the Wheatland United Church of Christ received an “In the Mud Grant” to create a series of video conversations between pastors Rev. Dr. Lisa Stenmark (Wheatland United Church of Christ) and Rev. Joshua Bruns (Covenant Lutheran Church). The goal was to engage existing members of our congregations in new ways, and also to expand our presence in this community and to communicate an inclusive vision of Christianity. Thus, the Table Talk and Tumbleweeds video conversation series was born!

During Lent, our video conversations are focusing on the thrills and theological questions that we’ve encountered in The Lord of the Rings, a fantasy trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien. Pastor Josh is, admittedly, a nerd while Pastor Lisa will only admit to being nerd adjacent (she’s in denial), so it seems natural that we would focus our Lenten discussion on this particular book series. We are discussing the theme of “Choosing Fellowship” and, more particularly, how our choices can make fellowship possible. Drawing from Lenten themes, scriptures, and a love of Tolkien, we’ve put together a fresh series of videos, plus some new community events that will hopefully continue to expand our conversations and draw new voices and perspectives into this Lenten season.
If you would like to make the journey with us, check out our website — TTandT.org —or enjoy our YouTube Videos . We would love to have you join the conversation and, if you enjoy it, please subscribe via Substack.
