La Foret News and Updates

People Over Partisanship
Maybe you haven’t noticed, but it’s an election year. That was a joke, because we’ve all noticed. If we thought 2016 revealed some toxic polarization in our country, 2020 is making it look like all hope is lost. Many of us are even experiencing this division in our own families and congregations. So how do we begin to heal that divide? It starts with a conversation.

Using the Living Room Conversations model (livingroomconversations.org), we will explore how we talk about politics and our hopes for improving how we do that. We will share stories about what has happened around our political conversations and consider the impact this has on our relationships with friends and family. This isn’t a conversation about issues, but rather a discovery of the ways our knowledge of others’ political views impact how we decide who to relate to and at what depth we feel comfortable talking. After a 90 minute discussion on Zoom, there will be an opportunity to stay on and share resources with one another for communicating well with family and friends over the last 30 days before the election (and after the election, when the holidays can mean a minefield of political conversations with family).

When: Oct 4, 2020 04:00 PM Mountain Time

Self Care September: Connecting to Your Deeper Self
Taking time to care for yourself can be a challenge, especially in the midst of a global pandemic, when need and suffering are all around us. But caring for and knowing yourself can anchor you in this turbulent time, and give you the grounding you need to care for others too. Come experience a deeper way to connect to your true Self. Heidi Lindeman, LPCC and IFS (Internal Family Systems) therapist will guide us into deeper authenticity with ourselves in the last instalment of this self care series. Friday, 9/25, 9am-10am on Zoom. Join one session or all three. ALL are welcome. Please invite friends, family, or anyone who could benefit from self discovery and self care. A $10 suggested donation to La Foret’s ministry is appreciated, but not required. Register in advance for this zoom event: https://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJUtduivqjojHNU6yq-eNf6lHG78yQIvnaoq.

La Foret Fall 5k
Love fall? Love running (or walking)? Love La Foret? Then the first ever Fall Squabbit Run 5k is for you! Over the summer, lots of races and fun runs went virtual due to Covid-19. The great thing about a virtual race is that you can complete it any time, anywhere! If you’re feeling cooped up, this is a great opportunity to get outside and still connect to your La Foret community virtually! Over the month of October, walk or run a 5k and submit your time to compete with runners and walkers all over the RMC. At the end of the month, the top three times in both categories, will win a fabulous prize, not to mention bragging rights. You can complete the run/walk at home, or call La Foret for a time to run the course on site. Check out laforet.org/events for more information, or email logan@laforet.org. Fall Youth Retreat
There’s nothing like 100 or more campers enjoying La Foret’s Pine Forest sanctuary together in a weekend of fun, faith, and transformation. Unfortunately, Covid-19 has changed the way we can responsibly do camp. But there IS an opportunity for churches to have their own, small group, fall retreat at La Foret. It’ll work like this: Your church group reserves a cabin on whichever days in October OR November you would like. Let us know if you would like a 2 night, 1 night, or single day retreat. We will send you a complete plan including a suggested schedule and all “lesson plans.” All the materials will be waiting for you when you show up. All the chaperones need to do is lead it, following all relevant guidelines for Covid-19 safety. Check out laforet.org/events for more information, or email logan@laforet.org
