The Rocky Mountain Conference Board of Directors at a Special COVID-19 Response Meeting convened on April 6, 2020, approve the following announcement regarding the 46th Annual Celebration:
Whereas the RMC bylaws require an annual meeting for the Conference to conduct its business, it has only been a matter of tradition and not bylaws mandate, that our meeting has been held in person, and within the first two weeks of June.
Given the urgency of response to the COVID-19 crisis and the need to rethink how to conduct our business under these circumstances, the Board has decided to move the meeting to a date later in the summer, to be determined and announced by May 31, 2020.
It is also the Board’s direction, given the concern for the health and wellbeing of the persons and their communities in the Rocky Mountain Conference, that the 2020 Annual Celebration be conducted electronically, with the particular format to be announced no later than May 31, 2020.
The effect of changing both the time and the format of the Annual Celebration includes:
1) Terms for the currently seated Board of Directors and Committee Members will be extended until the electronic Annual Celebration and business meeting, at which time the Nominating Committee will present a slate for your election in accordance with RMC bylaws. The Nominating Committee report will be posted on the RMC website for your review 30 days prior to the meeting, in accordance with RMC bylaws.
2) The 2021 Budget for the Rocky Mountain Conference (to commence 1/1/2021) will be prepared and posted on the RMC website for your review 30 days prior to the meeting, in accordance with RMC bylaws.
3) Other business to come before the Conference will be properly notified and posted on the RMC website for your review 30 days prior to the meeting, in accordance with RMC bylaws.
The Board also wishes to applaud the courage and leadership our clergy and lay leaders throughout the Conference have shown in the past few weeks as we have all been thrust into a new world. Having faith in the Holy Spirit to guide us, and confidence in our collective leadership to shepherd us through these difficult times, we turn once again to the root meaning of “con-fer-ence” – the act of ferrying together. Bless you in your ministries, and please know you are not alone.
