In an attempt to ease hunger insecurity for Ft. Morgan’s school children, Christ Congregational Church has been awarded a grant in service to the local program, Blessings in a Backpack.
The $1,000 grant was awarded to the local church from the Rocky Mountain Conference of the United Church of Christ on September 15, 2017. Christ Congregational had previously donated $500 to the Blessings in a Backpack program from the profits of their spring 2017 Faith 5K race and walk. This brings the total award to $1,500 for Blessings in a Backpack for the new school year.
Blessings in a Backpack provides weekend nutrition to elementary school children facing food insecurity in Ft. Morgan’s schools. A backpack is filled with food purchased from the grant money, and the children take it home for the weekend. The $1,500 will fund this initiative for three months this fall.
Volunteers are welcome to help purchase food and fill backpacks. Please contact Christ Congregational Church for more information or to volunteer at 970-867-3992.
Coordinators: Kathie Ferguson, Christ Congregational Church Faith 5K Chair; Ron Pflug, former Ft. Morgan Assistant Superintendent.
