SUMMARY:Leaves of Healing (Only for Some)
DESCRIPTION:Creation Justice Ministries has released a new downloadable resource for churches just in time for Earth Month. The new resource is entitled “The Canopy of Creation: Trees\, Faith\, and the Work of Justice.” The resource invites us to consider the following truth: in many cities\, tree canopy follows the same fault lines as historic redlining. Neighborhoods that were denied investment generations ago are often the same neighborhoods with fewer trees today; neighborhoods experiencing higher temperatures\, poorer air quality\, and greater vulnerability to flooding. This is a creation justice issue because access to the life-giving benefits of trees\, including shade\, clean air\, and cooling\, has been shaped not by chance\, but by systemic inequity. Learn more about this issue and the new resource available to churches in this webinar in which we will hear from Derrick Weston\, the Director of Theological Education and Formation at Creation Justice Ministries. Even if you cannot make the live event\, still register\, and we will send you a recording. This monthly installment of Creation Justice Webinars is co-hosted by the Rev. Dr. Brooks Berndt\, who serves as the Minister of Environmental Justice for the United Church of Christ\, and the Rev. Michael Malcom\, who serves as the Executive Director for Alabama Interfaith Power & Light and the People’s Justice Council. \nJoin this event via Zoom. SUMMARY:Questioning Our Faith in Practice: Unlearning White Supremacy in Practical Theology @Iliff
DESCRIPTION:Sign up here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/katherine-turpin-how-we-all-get-free-series-tickets-1980201984441?aff=oddtdtcreator \n\n\nWhat does it truly take for all of us to be free? How do we gather across difference to listen\, learn\, and lead with love? \n\n\n\n\nYou’re Invited: “How We All Get Free” – A Pulpit+ Exchange Series\nJoin us for Iliff’s Pulpit+ Exchange Series\, an inspiring series of in-person and virtual gatherings where clergy\, lay leaders\, activists\, scholars\, ministers\, journalists\, and community organizers come together to wrestle with the most pressing questions of our time. Together\, we’ll explore powerful stories of hope\, healing\, and action—each rooted in a shared vision of justice and liberation. \nQuestioning Our Faith in Practice: Unlearning White Supremacy in Practical Theology\nMarch 23\, 2026\nLearning to be free requires identifying the deep and sometimes subtle roots of white supremacy that infect the everyday ways we imagine things like leadership\, congregations\, and the Christian tradition. The questioning of deeply held\, “common sense” values can be painful and doubt-inducing work\, but ultimately opens us to embrace collective wisdom\, to nurture strong and resourceful communities\, and to live faithfully without certainty or superiority. \nReflecting on nearly a quarter century of teaching students at Iliff\, Katherine will tell the story of how being challenged by esteemed colleagues to uncover the white supremacy at the heart of her academic discipline led to a journey of questioning everything she thought she was supposed to be doing as a seminary professor\, forming Christian ministers. A commitment to listen and to learn with humility fuels the ongoing process of unbinding from the legacy of whiteness while still being accountable to what it has wrought. \nKatherine Turpin joined Iliff’s faculty in June 2002. She also currently serves as Associate Dean for Curriculum and Assessment and Director of the MDiv program. Her current research interests include how histories of oppression and structural inequality inform the identity of white women and unlearning and disrupting white supremacy in the practices of education and theological reflection. \nWhat to Expect Each Evening:\n5:00 – 5:45 PM (MST): Light meal and connection \n5:45 PM: Lecture begins\, followed by Q&A and deep discussion \nLocation: In-person at Iliff or online via livestream. Unable to attend in person? Register to receive the livestream link. \nWhy Attend?\nBecause change starts in community. This is a space to be challenged and inspired\, while meeting others who share your passion for faith-rooted justice\, equity\, and collective liberation. \nCome for one evening or all. Stay for the conversation. Leave with new energy\, new insights\, and a renewed sense of purpose. \nRSVP now and take your seat at the table.\nWhether you’re a faith leader\, community builder\, or someone seeking meaningful connection\, this is more than a lecture series—it’s an invitation to be part of a growing network of changemakers committed to building a more just and equitable world.

SUMMARY:Ecowomanism: Resilience\, Eco-Theology\, and Justice
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening with Dr. Melanie Harris and Dr. Amy Erickson as they move from sacred theory to local action. The voices we’ve been missing are the ones we need most. Through a powerful blend of sacred song\, contemplative practice\, and intellectual deep-dives\, we’re moving beyond “sustainability” and toward sacred connection. \nFollowing her lecture\, Dr. Melanie Harris will sit down with Dr. Amy Erickson for a dynamic conversation about what these ideas look like in everyday practice. Together\, they will explore how eco-womanist spirituality and relational ways of understanding the world can foster healthier food systems and stronger communities. \nThis dialogue will bridge the gap between theology and action\, highlighting the concrete implications for food justice initiatives within our own Colorado communities. \nThe Details \nWednesday\, March 25\, 2026 \n5:30 PM: Reception\, 6:30 PM: Conversation \nIliff School of Theology\, 2323 E. SUMMARY:Flickering Encounters of Life with Life: Re-Earthing Spiritual Practice (UCC Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:Whether we participate in organized religion or not\, we often feel closest to God or the sacred when we’re outside and in rapport with the natural world. This is not surprising\, as when we trace our lineages back\, we find ancestors who practiced earth-based spiritualities. In this conversation on “re-earthing spiritual practice\,” we will draw from Daniel’s two books—”Speak with the Earth and It Will Teach You: A Field Guide to the Bible” and “Live Each Season as It Passes”—as well as Daniel’s experience co-founding an outdoor “wild church” community\, to trace an evolution in theology of nature beyond the dominion and stewardship paradigms\, and towards relationship and reciprocity with the more-than-human world. \nRegister here: https://ucc.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_NZOcKAEBT6Sv_7ac6rQ4gw#/registration

Together\, we’ll explore powerful stories of hope\, healing\, and action—each rooted in a shared vision of justice and liberation. \nThe Art of Your Soul \nThe term “public theologian” is often used in a narrow fashion. As a muralist\, Michael Norice helps to expand the meaning of the term through his artwork. Come prepared to view some of his work and hear how he is not only providing murals for various neighborhoods but also helping community members lift their voices\, hopes\, and dreams through the art installations. \nMike Norice is a Los Angeles visual artist\, muralist\, filmmaker\, and community builder whose work transforms public space into sites of healing\, history\, and collective empowerment. Born in Watts during the 1980s—a time marked by poverty\, displacement\, and the impacts of gang and drug violence—Norice carries the resilience of his early environment into every creative endeavor. What began as a childhood coping mechanism has grown into a lifelong artistic practice spanning more than 40 years. \nIn 2017\, Norice founded Artfully United\, a nonprofit arts organization dedicated to revitalizing underserved neighborhoods through community-centered murals. His installations—bearing uplifting messages such as FORGIVENESS\, LOVE\, HOPE\, and BELIEVE—are offered as gifts to the communities that shaped him. Through Artfully United\, Norice combines public art\, youth engagement\, and storytelling to spark pride\, ambition\, and healing in historically marginalized areas. \nWhat to Expect Each Evening:\n5:00 – 5:45 PM (MST): Light meal and connection \n5:45 PM: Lecture begins\, followed by Q&A and deep discussion \nLocation: In-person at Iliff or online via livestream.
