SUMMARY:Inclusive Liturgy: Why and How with Dr. Amanda Udis-Kessler
DESCRIPTION:Inclusive Liturgy: Why and How with Dr. Amanda Udis-Kessler \nRegister here. \nIn keeping with the UCC’s dedication to extravagant welcome of all people\, the UCCMA is committed to programming worship music (and supporting liturgy) that is inclusive of all people. How we use language in our worship music and liturgy matters in welcoming all people and communicating our understanding that God loves all people and seeks the well-being of everyone regardless of their identities. In this session\, sociologist and hymnwriter Amanda Udis-Kessler will draw on trainings she has previously offered to UCCMA and UCC congregations to consider why inclusive language is so important and how we might center it in our music programming. \n \nDr. Amanda Udis-Kessler is a sociologist\, antiracism trainer\, church musician\, and sacred music composer/hymnwriter who serves as Director of DEI and Member Education on the UCCMA Board. She offers inclusive liturgy training to churches through her website https://equippingthepropheticchurch.com. Her book Cultural Processes of Inequality: A Sociological Perspective was published by Anthem Press in 2024. Find Amanda’s free-use music and a description of her philosophy of sacred music inclusiveness at https://queersacredmusic.com.  \nThis is a free\, one-hour conversation on ZOOM. All are welcome. Saturday\, February 28\, 2026 at 12 PM ET / 9 AM PT \nPlease register for the event to receive the Zoom link. \nCan’t attend? SUMMARY:Art\, Imagination\, and the Work of Freedom (Iliff School of Theology)
DESCRIPTION:Register here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/helen-littlejohn-chinelo-tyler-how-we-all-get-free-series-tickets-1977623040751?aff=odcleoeventsincollection \n\n\nWhat does it truly take for all of us to be free? How do we gather across difference to listen\, learn\, and lead with love? \n\n\n\n\nYou’re Invited: “How We All Get Free” – A Pulpit+ Exchange Series\nJoin us for Iliff’s Pulpit+ Exchange Series\, an inspiring series of in-person and virtual gatherings where clergy\, lay leaders\, activists\, scholars\, ministers\, journalists\, and community organizers come together to wrestle with the most pressing questions of our time. Together\, we’ll explore powerful stories of hope\, healing\, and action—each rooted in a shared vision of justice and liberation. \nArt\, Imagination\, and the Work of Freedom \nDescription: Art has always been a strategy for survival. It has been a way to breathe when the air gets thin\, a way to speak when voices are silenced\, and a way to dream when the world refuses to imagine anything new. For this conversation\, we bring together two artists from different generations whose life’s work demonstrates that creativity is not a luxury\, it is a liberation practice. \nHelen Littlejohn is a visual artist\, poet\, and activist whose work invites us to see the beauty\, the ache\, and the possibility in our shared human story. Through color\, texture\, and language\, her work insists that we look deeply and listen closely to the world we are shaping. She will be joined by Chinelo Tyler\, a hip hop artist\, preacher\, and activist whose lyrical power and theological imagination remind us that truth-telling is an act of resistance and that beats and bars can be a roadmap toward collective freedom. \nIn this moderated dialogue\, we will explore how art becomes protest\, how creativity becomes healing\, and how artists\, regardless of age or medium\, become architects of liberation. Together\, Littlejohn and Tyler will guide us through the ways art dares us to believe that another world is possible. \nWhat to Expect Each Evening:\n5:00 – 5:45 PM (MST): Light meal and connection \n5:45 PM: Lecture begins\, followed by Q&A and deep discussion \nLocation: In-person at Iliff or online via livestream. Unable to attend in person? Register to receive the livestream link. \nWhy Attend?\nBecause change starts in community. This is a space to be challenged and inspired\, while meeting others who share your passion for faith-rooted justice\, equity\, and collective liberation. \nCome for one evening or all. Stay for the conversation. Leave with new energy\, new insights\, and a renewed sense of purpose. \nRSVP now and take your seat at the table.\nWhether you’re a faith leader\, community builder\, or someone seeking meaningful connection\, this is more than a lecture series—it’s an invitation to be part of a growing network of changemakers committed to building a more just and equitable world.

SUMMARY:How Can We Keep from Singing? @Iliff
DESCRIPTION:What does it truly take for all of us to be free? How do we gather across differences to listen\, learn\, and lead with love? \n\n\n\n\nThis session of the “How We All Get Free” series is IN-PERSON ONLY — Register Here!\nJoin us for Iliff’s Pulpit+ Exchange Series\, an inspiring series of in-person and virtual gatherings where clergy\, lay leaders\, activists\, scholars\, ministers\, journalists\, and community organizers come together to wrestle with the most pressing questions of our time. Together\, we’ll explore powerful stories of hope\, healing\, and action—each rooted in a shared vision of justice and liberation. \nHow Can We Keep From Singing? \nWe have to keep singing to give voice to suppressed cries\, hope to the hopeless\, courage to the fearful\, and protection from the enemy. \nCome\, learn about the role of freedom songs in slavery\, the civil rights movement\, South Africa\, Minneapolis\, and other places around the globe. Be inspired by music grounded in various protest and resistance movements. Sing songs that will encourage and liberate the minds\, bodies\, and souls of everyone. (Freedom songs have the power to transform both the oppressed and the oppressor.) \nYou will be inspired by Daniel Klawitter\, Morgan Lowe\, Christine Ware\, and Eric McEuen; grounded by percussionist Jacqui Shumway; and led by Daryl Walker and Caran Ware Joseph. \nListen to powerful music or join in the singing and drumming with us. No experience is necessary. \nBr. Daniel Klawitter serves as Director of Enrollment at Iliff School of Theology and is an accomplished poet and the singer/lyricist for the indie folk/rock band Mining for Rain. All of his band’s music is available for free or name-your-price streaming and download on their Bandcamp site. \nMorgan Lowe: As a graduate of CU-Boulder with a BA in English Literature\, Morgan Lowe has always been interested in stories – reading\, writing\, or interpreting a narrative that expresses and illuminates. A good story informs\, captivates\, and heals; it moves us to feel. Whether we are performing our own original material or paying homage to the works of other great artists\, the best way we can communicate our story is through our voice\, our heart\, and our art. \nLowe’s distinctive journey of self-discovery through songwriting\, artist development\, music business\, voice lessons\, and vocal teacher training has empowered her to step into her own light and story\, and ignited her passion to help others do the same. \nMorgan was encouraged as a child to love and listen to a wide variety of music\, resulting in a blend of pop\, rock\, jazz\, and blues that influences her today. Morgan currently performs with several top dance bands in Denver\, including Stone Beat Invasion\, Tunisia\, and Jacob Larson Band. She also writes and performs original music with her project The Gilded Lilies. \nEric McEuen is a musician and singer whose work draws on theological studies (Pacific School of Religion)\, a BA in music (Brandeis University)\, and decades of experience performing and songleading in various settings. Since arriving in Denver in 2015\, he has supported many communities and gatherings\, from ecumenical services and protest marches to numerous events at Iliff. Eric is currently Minister of Music and Community at The Land UMC (Aurora)\, Worship Music Director at Holy Trinity Anglican Church (Broomfield)\, and a regular musician at Living Waters Community Church (Denver). He is also a performing songwriter\, multi-instrumentalist\, and music teacher. \nJacqui Shumway is Owner/Director and Therapeutic Kinesiologist & Instructor for the Tai Chi Project at the Living Younger Longer Institute. Jacqui has two ways of describing how she ministers. \nThe “professional/grown-up answer?” I help people learn how to take care of their bodies (and their mindful spirits) so they can live healthier lives – specifically through the Chinese Five Excellences and Traditional Chinese Medicine. \nThe “fun/kid answer?” I put the fun back in education and learning… through AMP- Art\, Music\, and Physical fitness. “What if the Hokey Pokey IS what it’s all about?” \nDaryl Jerome Walker\, Sacred Music Theologian\, brings depth\, breadth\, and height to today’s gathering. SUMMARY:Leaves of Healing (Only for Some)
DESCRIPTION:Creation Justice Ministries has released a new downloadable resource for churches just in time for Earth Month. The new resource is entitled “The Canopy of Creation: Trees\, Faith\, and the Work of Justice.” The resource invites us to consider the following truth: in many cities\, tree canopy follows the same fault lines as historic redlining. Neighborhoods that were denied investment generations ago are often the same neighborhoods with fewer trees today; neighborhoods experiencing higher temperatures\, poorer air quality\, and greater vulnerability to flooding. This is a creation justice issue because access to the life-giving benefits of trees\, including shade\, clean air\, and cooling\, has been shaped not by chance\, but by systemic inequity. Learn more about this issue and the new resource available to churches in this webinar in which we will hear from Derrick Weston\, the Director of Theological Education and Formation at Creation Justice Ministries. Even if you cannot make the live event\, still register\, and we will send you a recording. This monthly installment of Creation Justice Webinars is co-hosted by the Rev. Dr. Brooks Berndt\, who serves as the Minister of Environmental Justice for the United Church of Christ\, and the Rev.
