SUMMARY:Boundary Training for Ministers in Specialized Settings (MESA UCC)
DESCRIPTION:Monday\, January 26\, 6:00 – 9:00pm ET\, Boundary Training for Ministers in Specialized Settings with Rev. Tara Barber and Rev. Anissa Glaser-Bacon \n\n\nThis training\, hosted by Revs. Tara Barber and Anissa Glaser-Bacon\, is open to ministers serving in specialized settings throughout the United Church of Christ. Serving in specialized settings requires particular attention to boundaries within the ministry setting and home church that are challenging and different from those serving as local church pastors. This training will focus on matters that relate specifically to issues that these ministers face\, providing opportunities for clergy to reflect on best practices and growth in their practice of ministry.

SUMMARY:Stewarding Our Future -- Zoom Session
DESCRIPTION:Stewarding Our Future Virtual Sessions: Sign Up Here by January 29 \nWatch the Video Introduction with Erin and Hunter here \n*** \nAs we continue to move through this time of transition and look ahead to a national search for our next Conference Leadership\, we are eager to gather with each of the congregations in the Rocky Mountain Conference in a format that facilitates open conversation. \nTo that end\, we are writing to invite you to participate in a small group conversation via Zoom during the first or second week of February 2026. While we had aspired to be able to visit every congregation in person\, our capacity to do so has proven difficult. It is our hope that by pivoting to this format we will still be able to accomplish a similar goal of discussing our missional and financial priorities\, the upcoming search process\, and any other related matters you may wish to raise as we move forward. \nWe invite each church to attend with their pastor(s) and one or two members of your council as you think appropriate. All the available dates and times are on the following page. To sign up your church for a conversation\, please go to this sign up sheet to select a time. Please do this by by Jan 29\, 2026. If none of these dates work for you\, and you want to be part of a conversation please email or phone Melissa McCarl (admin@rmcucc.org / 720.738.8561) and we will find an alternative date. \nWe appreciate this is a busy time of year for many of our members; this discussion should not take more than an hour—with time for conversation—and certainly time for follow up should you feel it appropriate afterward. \nWishing you the very best as the year begins\, and hoping you can join us in February.

SUMMARY:Lecture with author Erica Chenoweth
DESCRIPTION:We are honored to welcome Dr. Erica Chenoweth (they\, them) as our 2026 MacKenzie Lecturer. At a time when democracy faces unprecedented challenges and civil rights are under threat\, Dr. Chenoweth’s research offers vital insight into how ordinary people can create extraordinary change through nonviolent action. \nInternationally recognized for groundbreaking work on civil resistance\, Dr. Chenoweth is known for articulating the “3.5% rule” – the principle\, grounded in rigorous analysis of hundreds of movements worldwide\, that no regime has withstood the active\, nonviolent participation of at least 3.5% of its population. Their scholarship offers not only political wisdom but moral imagination and a vision for a more just and compassionate future. \nDr. Chenoweth serves as Academic Dean for Faculty Development and Frank Stanton Professor of the First Amendment at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. They are also the first openly non-binary faculty dean at Harvard University. During their graduate years at the University of Colorado\, where they earned both a Master’s degree and Ph.D. in Political Science\, Erica was actively engaged at First Congregational Church\, making this homecoming especially meaningful. \nRSVP Required! SUMMARY:Inclusive Liturgy: Why and How with Dr. Amanda Udis-Kessler
DESCRIPTION:Inclusive Liturgy: Why and How with Dr. Amanda Udis-Kessler \nRegister here. \nIn keeping with the UCC’s dedication to extravagant welcome of all people\, the UCCMA is committed to programming worship music (and supporting liturgy) that is inclusive of all people. How we use language in our worship music and liturgy matters in welcoming all people and communicating our understanding that God loves all people and seeks the well-being of everyone regardless of their identities. In this session\, sociologist and hymnwriter Amanda Udis-Kessler will draw on trainings she has previously offered to UCCMA and UCC congregations to consider why inclusive language is so important and how we might center it in our music programming. \n \nDr. Amanda Udis-Kessler is a sociologist\, antiracism trainer\, church musician\, and sacred music composer/hymnwriter who serves as Director of DEI and Member Education on the UCCMA Board. She offers inclusive liturgy training to churches through her website https://equippingthepropheticchurch.com. Her book Cultural Processes of Inequality: A Sociological Perspective was published by Anthem Press in 2024. Find Amanda’s free-use music and a description of her philosophy of sacred music inclusiveness at https://queersacredmusic.com.  \nThis is a free\, one-hour conversation on ZOOM. All are welcome. Saturday\, February 28\, 2026 at 12 PM ET / 9 AM PT \nPlease register for the event to receive the Zoom link. \nCan’t attend? SUMMARY:Art\, Imagination\, and the Work of Freedom (Iliff School of Theology)
DESCRIPTION:Register here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/helen-littlejohn-chinelo-tyler-how-we-all-get-free-series-tickets-1977623040751?aff=odcleoeventsincollection \n\n\nWhat does it truly take for all of us to be free? How do we gather across difference to listen\, learn\, and lead with love? \n\n\n\n\nYou’re Invited: “How We All Get Free” – A Pulpit+ Exchange Series\nJoin us for Iliff’s Pulpit+ Exchange Series\, an inspiring series of in-person and virtual gatherings where clergy\, lay leaders\, activists\, scholars\, ministers\, journalists\, and community organizers come together to wrestle with the most pressing questions of our time. Together\, we’ll explore powerful stories of hope\, healing\, and action—each rooted in a shared vision of justice and liberation. \nArt\, Imagination\, and the Work of Freedom \nDescription: Art has always been a strategy for survival. It has been a way to breathe when the air gets thin\, a way to speak when voices are silenced\, and a way to dream when the world refuses to imagine anything new. For this conversation\, we bring together two artists from different generations whose life’s work demonstrates that creativity is not a luxury\, it is a liberation practice. \nHelen Littlejohn is a visual artist\, poet\, and activist whose work invites us to see the beauty\, the ache\, and the possibility in our shared human story. Through color\, texture\, and language\, her work insists that we look deeply and listen closely to the world we are shaping. She will be joined by Chinelo Tyler\, a hip hop artist\, preacher\, and activist whose lyrical power and theological imagination remind us that truth-telling is an act of resistance and that beats and bars can be a roadmap toward collective freedom. \nIn this moderated dialogue\, we will explore how art becomes protest\, how creativity becomes healing\, and how artists\, regardless of age or medium\, become architects of liberation. Together\, Littlejohn and Tyler will guide us through the ways art dares us to believe that another world is possible. \nWhat to Expect Each Evening:\n5:00 – 5:45 PM (MST): Light meal and connection \n5:45 PM: Lecture begins\, followed by Q&A and deep discussion \nLocation: In-person at Iliff or online via livestream. Unable to attend in person? Register to receive the livestream link. \nWhy Attend?\nBecause change starts in community. This is a space to be challenged and inspired\, while meeting others who share your passion for faith-rooted justice\, equity\, and collective liberation. \nCome for one evening or all. Stay for the conversation. Leave with new energy\, new insights\, and a renewed sense of purpose. \nRSVP now and take your seat at the table.\nWhether you’re a faith leader\, community builder\, or someone seeking meaningful connection\, this is more than a lecture series—it’s an invitation to be part of a growing network of changemakers committed to building a more just and equitable world.
