WELCOMING THE STRANGER WITH REVEREND PEDRO SILVA & ALEJANDRO FUENTES-MENA

June 7, 2020 @ 11:00 pm - June 8, 2020 @ 12:00 am

Venue

Motus Theater Online

Reverend Pedro Silva, from First Congregational Church UCC – Boulder, will be reading aloud Alejandro Fuentes-Mena’s autobiographical story of hard work, familial love, and his journey to becoming one of the first two DACAmented teachers in the country. The reading will be followed by both personal and theological reflections on the importance of sacred hospitality, and the impact of stepping into the shoes of an undocumented person.

This performance is part of Motus Theater’s Welcoming the Stranger series on Shoebox Stories – a collaboration with religious leaders who express moral courage and sacred hospitality as they read aloud the story of an undocumented person and reflect both personally and theologically on the impact of stepping into their shoes.

Sponsored by First Congregational Church UCC – Boulder and Together Colorado.

RSVP here.

“I HOPE THAT PEOPLE FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE AND FROM DIFFERENT BACKGROUNDS COME BECAUSE I THINK THAT IT’S IMPORTANT THAT WE LISTEN TO EACH OTHER’S STORIES AND WRESTLE WITH THEM BEFORE PASSING ANY JUDGMENTS… WE TEND TO HAVE VERY LITTLE CAPACITY FOR THIS CROSS-CULTURALLY. THE ONLY WAY TO MOVE THROUGH THAT IS TO INTENTIONALLY PUT OURSELVES IN THE CIRCUMSTANCES TO LEARN FROM ONE ANOTHER.”
