Dear People of the Rocky Mountain Conference:
The RMC Staff is hosting an RMC-Wide Zoom Call this Thursday, October 5, at 3 p.m. (Mountain Time). The details of how to join this meeting are at the bottom of this post.
We are referring to this Zoom Call as a “Whitewater” meeting. If life is a river, we are right now struggling in the whitewater of the rapids, reacting as best we can to the chaos in the world around us. Our aim is to come together and support one another.
In profound times of hurt, confusion, anger, and sadness, we find ourselves asking “Why?” in an attempt to make sense of senselessness. We may strain to hold space for our communities. We may go online to voice what’s on our heart and affirm our values. In this, we are exhausted, both emotionally and physically. We begin to wonder if we can continue feeling so heartbroken and helpless with each tragedy, or if we will succumb to “Compassion Fatigue.”
This call is meant to provide space for prayer, tears, optimism, action, and perhaps most importantly, empowerment. Our prayer for ALL members of the Rocky Mountain Conference—clergy and laity alike—is for light, love, and action. We invite you to discuss our experience, while taking care not to get burned out. We invite you to call upon practices of optimism in extraordinarily trying times. We invite you to be in prayer together, and with Spirit, so that we may foster love in a broken world.
